Overview

In recent years, many businesses have embraced the move towards sustainable procurement and purpose-led business, and begun to drive sustainability improvements in their supply chains. In recent months, however, they have seen push back from large investors accusing enterprise businesses of getting ‘distracted’ by talk of ‘purpose’, and letting down shareholders in doing so.

In this paper, procurement expert Peter Smith argues his case for why these investors have got it wrong, and suggests a number of procurement with purpose-related recommendations for large businesses, covering specific topics that organisations might like to address, and the steps they need to take in order to build the ‘infrastructure’ for purpose-led procurement.
